Cook Together

Join Our Cook Together Class at St. Mary Hornsey Rise!

During the pandemic, St. Mary Hornsey Rise made a significant impact by donating takeaway food from our kitchen to the community during a time of great need. This spirit of sharing continues today through our Hive Food Bank. Inspired by this, we decided to extend our efforts and teach people to cook for themselves!

Every Friday from 3 PM to 5 PM, we invite you to join us for our "Cook Together" classes. We provide all the ingredients and teach basic cooking skills to groups of 6-8 participants. Whether you're a novice or a seasoned cook, you'll have fun trying out new recipes and enjoying the communal cooking experience.

Why Cook Together?

Food is at the heart of Cook Together, but it's more than just about cooking. It's about bringing people together to share cultures, enjoy each other's company, and embark on a culinary adventure.

Each week, we select an exciting recipe, either introducing new flavors or teaching new cooking techniques. Our recipes can be requested by participants, and we alternate between vegetarian and meat options each week, with vegan options always available on request. Some of our featured recipes that celebrate the spirit of Cook Together include:

Shakshouka: A delicious North African dish that combines tomatoes, chilies, and eggs, symbolizing unity.

Gumbo: A Louisiana classic that mixes spices and ingredients from African, Native American, French, and Spanish heritage.

Kofta Kebabs and Flatbread: Middle Eastern minced kebabs with handmade bread using traditional methods passed down through generations.

What to Expect

Each session lasts about two hours and is led by one of our experienced team members. However, Cook Together is a truly collaborative effort where everyone learns from each other. Our regular attendees and newcomers alike feel welcomed, have a great time, and enjoy making new recipes and friends.

Bon Appetit!

Whether you're a regular or just dropping in for a single session, we look forward to cooking with you. Come share in the joy of cooking and community at St. Mary Hornsey Rise. Come and break bread with us!

I have never laughed so much as I have cooking here today!
